?????ARE YOU BREATHING?????

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Psalm 1

Summer Challenge - "Are You Breathing?"

This design for the Summer Challenge event was created by one of our incredibly talented youth kids, Damaris Perez, in response to a devotional thought we had on Psalm 1, particularly verse 3,

[A righteous man] is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. (NIV)

A "tree planted by streams of water" is strong, with roots that run deep and create an unshakeable foundation, because the tree is constantly drinking in that which gives it life, the stream.

Like a tree needs water, our spirits need the Word of God. It is what webreathe in.

Like anything other than water is harmful to the tree, for us anything less than God's truth isn't sufficient.

Our theme for the Summer Challenge is "Are You Breathing?" and it's the question we pose to ourselves. Are you breathing in the Word of God? Are you living off of him, and his love and truth? Are you giving your spirit the one thing it needs above all else, the thing it needs to survive?

These coming months at Murray Park will see a renewed and intentional focus on God's word, the stream that feeds us. We want to use events like the Challenge and the Mission Week with Sunset to actively seek after God, and to be filled with his Word.

I think C.S. Lewis said it better than me in Mere Christianity, so I will leave you with his words:

"God made us: invented us as a man invests an engine. A car is made to run on petrol, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other."

Happy Mother's Day

“Mother” in Proverbs. . . .

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. (1:8-9)

So be happy with your wife, and find joy with the woman you married. (5:18)

My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. (6:20-22)

A kindhearted woman gains respect. (11:16)

Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it. (22:6)

May she who gave you birth be happy. (23:25)

Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her. (31:28)

Mothers and Women. . .

You made all of the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. ~ Psalm 139: 13

You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. ~1Peter 3:4

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. ~ Psalm 127:3
Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God will give you. ~ Exodus 20:12
