Mission week was a great experience that our congregation got to share not only with a group of kids from Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, TX, but also with the community in Murray, as well as Salt Lake City at large.
The week started with a trip to Temple Square, and a tour. This was a time when the youth were able to experience a unique part of the city's culture. They were able to learn about the LDS church and ask questions. This was an opportunity to be made aware of those we would be serving in the city.
We also got a chance to take the TRAX downtown, to the Gateway mall, and spend some time spreading the gospel. Our kids were challenged to engage strangers and people they met and hopefully plant a seed with spiritual conversation, and information about the church.
The group got several chances to serve the community. Groups painted and organized donations at the Fourth Street Clinic, a VOA center, as well as working in Murray Park doing volunteer landscaping work, working with the setup of a Relay for Life event, and helping individuals in the community with needs like yard or house work. Plus, the week was spent setting up and organizing a Vacation Bible School event that weekend.
Additionally, the group simply spent a lot of time
fellowshipping with one another and forming relationships. Evenings were spent seeing the city and having devotional times together, and Sunset kids stayed in host homes with Murray Park members, visiting and sharing meals together. We hiked Ensign Peak together, and went to Antelope Island and shared some great times.
The week was a blessing to all involved, and a great opportunity in the life of this church. Thanks to all that were involved in making the week what it was!
